Weekly update 15.05.2016

Lots of filling, sanding and painting this week...

First job was to complete bedroom 2 with a third and final coat of matt emulsion

The curtain rail was then fitted to the window frame

I've fitted new brass latches and hinges to the doors, but we're re-using the old brass handles as they're perfectly serviceable, if a little tarnished.

A cocktail of products plus a lot of elbow grease got the handles looking almost like new.

And to protect the newly painted wall, a piece of thick pipe insulation was slotted over the internal handle.

The cupboard on the landing is pretty rough on the inside... not worth spending a lot of effort on, but it needed a bit of a tidy up before it could be painted as there were sections of crumbling plaster, particularly around the inside of the door frame.

The loose bits were chipped out and some fresh mortar applied. Once set, this was then skimmed over with a bit of ready mixed skimming plaster.

The cupboard is lined with old, peeling wallpaper so this was re-attached with a few dabs of wallpaper paste before applying a mist coat of diluted white emulsion.

Now to the landing... This much filler shouldn't be necessary on newly plastered walls, but there were so many digs, dents and trowel marks, etc. that it needed a fair bit of preparation.

The loft hatch and surround were primed and then painted with water based satinwood.

Then, with all that filler sanded back to a smooth finish, the cutting-in could begin with the mist coat.

And then the walls and ceiling were mist coated with diluted emulsion applied by roller.

The woodwork has had a bit more attention... several applications of filler, sanded back and is now primed ready for undercoating.
